MAG – 2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY DECEMBER 1ST

2001: A Space Odyssey #1 was published by Marvel Comics on December 1, 1976. Written and illustrated by Jack Kirby, this comic expands on the themes of the iconic Stanley Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke film.

The issue begins in the distant past, where the mysterious monolith instructs a hunter on how to craft a spear. The story then shifts to the future, where two astronauts discover an alien ruin. One astronaut is killed by a creature, while the other, Woodrow Decker, is transported by the monolith into a surreal countryside. There, he rapidly ages until he dies—only to be reborn as an embryo-like entity referred to as a “new seed” destined to explore the galaxy.
