Sugar Diet Vol. 1 marks an important milestone in the career of Rick Trembles, a key figure in Canadian underground comics. By the time this issue was released, Trembles had already made a name for himself with his self-published zine Spoit and his early Motion Picture Purgatory strips for The Montreal Mirror (1985-1988).
